In what must have been one of the most intense games played in the United Soccer League this year, Peoria and Des Moines took it to penalties after scoring ten goals between them and earning a red card apiece.

The 90 minutes ended 3-3 after Peoria blew a 3-1 lead, sending the game to extra time. Des Moines thought they had won the game 4-5 after scoring in the 120th minute, but after lengthy celebrations there was enough time for Peoria to restart and for Fritz Volmar to tie it up 5-5 in the very final seconds.

Peoria goalkeeper Samy Slimi was the hero and man of the match for Peoria, saving two penalties to send Peoria into the Conference final against Flint City Bucks on Friday 26 July.
